Surgical Education
Our Surgical Societies bring together highly motivated medical students with a shared interest in specific surgical specialties (e.g. Neurosurgery). Each society consists of around 15 students who meet regularly to deepen their knowledge of various surgical procedures. The societies foster a collaborative environment where members discuss recent publications, stay updated on the latest advancements, and engage in case discussions with experienced surgeons. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in morning rapports at hospitals and gain hands-on experience by observing or discussing case series with surgeons.
Additionally, we offer Clinical Insights sessions for first- and second-year students, where they can sign up for case presentations presented by a senior student and hands-on suturing crash courses to jumpstart their surgical learning early on.
Neurosurgery Student Society
The Neurosurgery Student Society offers an enriching two-semester curriculum aimed at providing aspiring neurosurgeons with a strong theoretical foundation in neurosurgery.
A wide range of topics are covered including neuroanatomy, neuroradiology, neurological examinations, neurocritical care, and operating room basics. It also delves into specific neurosurgical areas like traumatic brain injury, spinal pathologies, pediatric neurosurgery, cerebrovascular conditions, and neurosurgical oncology.
The 2-3h weekly meet consists of a peer-to-peer teaching session, followed by a topic-specific journal club, before concluding with either a social event or an in-depth session on topics related to neurosurgery (e.g. neurotechnology).
In addition to deepening medical knowledge, participants will develop key soft skills such as research, presentation, and discussion. The program fosters collaboration with leading neurosurgeons and creates a space for like-minded individuals to connect and share their passion for the field, all within a supportive and fun environment.

Orthopedic Surgery Student Society
The Orthopaedic/Trauma Surgery Student Society aims to bring together students who share an interest in orthopaedics and traumatology. Diseases, therapies, operations and new studies are presented and discussed.
A comprehensive range of orthopaedic topics are covered, including shoulder and elbow injuries such as rotator cuff tears and frozen shoulder, hand conditions such as fractures and carpal tunnel syndrome, and hip conditions such as arthritis, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and fractures. Knee conditions such as ACL tears and patellar dislocations, foot and ankle conditions such as hallux valgus and Achilles tendon injuries, spinal conditions such as herniated discs and spinal stenosis, and bone tumours such as osteosarcoma and metastases are also covered in detail.
In this way, over time, a community will develop which, together with a strong culture of discussion, will shape the future of orthopaedics and traumatology.
