About the Course:

Learn the basic suturing skills!

In our suturing course you will learn all the basic skills you need for surgical assisting in the elective year. We will help you to get some first hands-on suturing know-how, which you can then build on!

Have you ever wondered... How surgeons reattach the skin precisely and safely to complete operations? What techniques and skills are required to place a suture so that it holds securely? How to handle suture materials and instruments to achieve ideal results for your patients? Then you should not miss this opportunity!
In our upcoming intensive peer-tutoring basic course, you will learn the fundamental techniques of surgical suturing that form the foundation of any surgery and wound care. Whether you are aspiring GPs or future neurosurgeons, this course will lay the foundation for everything surgical that follows! The basic course extends over a period of 10 weeks (week 09 - 18) and comprises the following 4 blocks, with each week dedicated to one block.
Course 1 (Block A): Surgical knotting + single stitch suture Course 2 (Block B): Continuous suture + Donati Course 3 (Block C): Intracutaneous (single stitch) + intracutaneous continuous Course 4 (Block D): Consolidation & Repetition The focus of the course is on practical learning and practicing suturing techniques. You will be taught by specially trained peer tutors.

FS 2025

Course information:

We offer 5 tracks, which will run in parallel. It is not possible to change tracks. All courses will take place in Careum 2.

 

  • Track 1: Tuesday, 11.03. / 18.03. / 25.03. / 01.04. each 18:00-20:00
  • Track 2: Wednesday, 12.03. / 19.03. / 26.03. / 02.04 each 18:00-20:00
  • Track 3: Saturday, 15.03. / 29.03. / 12.04. / 03.05. each 10:00-12:00
  • Track 4: Saturday, 15.03. / 29.03. / 12.04. / 03.05. each 13:00-15:00
  • Track 5: Thursday, 13.03. / 20.03. / 27.03. / 03.04. each 18:00-20:00

To increase your chances of being allocated a place, you can apply for several tracks when you register. So enter all your available time slots!

Deadline:

The registration deadline for the course is Monday, March 3, at 12:00 p.m. On the same evening you will find out whether you have got a place or not.

Certificate:

On completion of the course, you will receive a certificate recognized by the Swiss College of Surgeons (SCS). The condition for this is that you have attended every block (A-D). Attendance will be checked.

Costs:

CHF 85.00

How are the places allocated?
50% -> students from the 4th year of study
35% -> students from the 3rd year of study
15% -> students from the 2nd year of study
Within these groups, places are allocated at random.
Preparation:
You do not need to prepare for the course. The content will be taught during the course. No previous knowledge is necessary! Everyone is welcome – from sewing novices to surgical professionals.
Outlook:
The basic course not only prepares you ideally for the elective year, the OR and the emergency, but also gives you the opportunity to become a YSSA tutor in the future.
